Epic story from Niou's POV. Perfectly captures the essence of *teenage boy*, all dumb and smelly and fumbling and awkward and sweet at the same time. Super well-written and engaging, really gets you invested in the characters, and I really fell hard for Niou. LONG, and great for curling up with on a rainy day. <3 Oh, and the author really delivers on the sexual aspect... really hot.

Takes place in high school. Another great story by reposte. Great confusion, angst... The sequel is even more amazing, if possible. The author makes Niou/Kirihara work really well.

Title: Shibuya 109

Notes: "8 months later, Kirihara is more confused about Niou than ever." Sequel to Six Percent Doki Doki. Beautiful angst, strong emotions that really get under the reader's skin. Kirihara's confusion and pain is really stark. I really like that this story deals with homophobia in a school setting and attempts to address the fact that in real life homosexuality is not accepted and that kids are just plain cruel sometimes. I applaud the author for that.

Title: Might Be Found

Notes: "Renji might have found what he doesn't know he has been looking for."
This story is all about Yanagi, and it's fantastic. It's beautifully written, poetic, yet matter-of-fact. It has a great atmosphere of just... life. A confused teenager, all the feelings that swirl around and can't be controlled. Really intense and just good .

Not gonna lie, I read this for the Atobe/Jirou, not the other pairings. It's epic, romantic, very beautifully-written. Atobe has the biggest case of denial ever. As one fan put it, his denial becomes like a whole other character by itself! But the boys are totally endearing and sexy and Atobe's in love big time, he just doesn't know it yet. So romantic... I love everything Monnie has written so check out her other stories in her memories because they're all cute!

Title: All Tangled Up In Lace

Notes: AU, post time-skip. After years of being a missing-nin, Sasuke comes back to Konoha, and... spend his free time crossdressing and calling himself "Saki-chan." It sounds idiotic, but it's possibly one of the most well-written, moving, heart-wrenching fics ever. Psychologically complex and so well-characterized, it hurts. Emotional, intense, crazy-good. I really admire this author for taking on such a crack-fic idea and executing it so flawlessly.

Notes: Gaara goes missing in the desert and Naruto goes to find him. Visceral, bittersweet, gorgeous. I don't think anyone writes Sasuke as well as crazy_toffee does. She does a great job with the many layers of emotions people feel toward each other, the conflicts, loyalty, friendship, love, fear, and the barriers we erect against our own happiness.

Gorgeous and evocative prose; I definitely was brought to tears at some point. There was a lot of tension, a lot of plot, tons of cute moments, and equally many painful ones. The romance is very strong, very poignant; the sheer magnetism between Naruto and Sasuke is palpable.

But it's beautifully written and has a mostly happy ending, and is a small gem among the piles and piles of utter crap in the fandom.

Title: Touch the Parade

Notes: "When a circus finds a young man with his eyes sewn shut, they take him in, no questions asked. That doesn't much matter, though, because he has no answers." Evocative, rich, quietly powerful. Canonverse, though it seems AU at first.

Title: The Stranger Inside

Notes: Story of Itachi before he became a mass murderer. The author mentioned that in writing Itachi's point of view, she drew inspiration from the character of Mersault from the novel The Stranger. I can see the influence. Flawless prose and strong, intelligent characterization. Itachi's strange and horrifying worldview is fascinating.

Title: Whispers Series

Notes: A series of smaller arcs that all tie together into one big awesome story of brilliance. This fic is definitely my favorite GW fic, and possibly my favorite fic of all time. There are a lot of things to like about it --the spot-on characterizations, the detailed action scenes, the raging hot sex, the mature subtle humor, even the amazingly realistic-sounding technical and mechanical jargon that adds an extra boost of authenticity to the whole universe. I love the way both Duo and Heero are written. Despite the romance between them, both characters maintain their dedication to their missions above all else, which is a refreshingly realistic viewpoint. The action is fantastic, which most authors struggle with, but Mal does a great job. The last arc is a hilarious comedy of errors. I don't know...it's like a fic sent from god himself.

This fic is exactly what would happen if someone who was engineered to be the perfect soldier tried to do something as ridiculously irrational as help his friends fall in love!

Title: The Arrangement

Notes: So good I thought I would literally combust with joy. I actually had a hard time getting into it the first time I tried to read it, but at the urging of a friend I tried again later and while the beginning chapters were as full of sexually-awkward situations and annoying Wu-angst (annoying, but well-characterized, and necessary for the character's growth as the story continues) as I remembered, I pushed through and eventually, by the end of the second arc/beginning of the third, I found myself totally sucked in and trapped by this amazing, complex, and kick-ass piece of fiction. I usually don't like Wufei and the idea of 1x5 wierds me out (like many others, I'm was a die-hard 1x2 fan), this story is simply too good to ignore. It may be one of the most realistically- and sympathetically-characterized (for Wufei) fic of all time.

Title: The Drums of Heaven

Notes: Takes place 5 years after the events of Endless Waltz; Duo and Trowa have disappeared and Heero goes after them. It's fucking Sol 1056, need I say more? Extremely complicated political plot balanced perfectly with development of 1x2 romantic relationship. Each of the 5 pilots is badass with a well-developed personality, past, motives, etc. Including Quatre, okay? Do not expect some softy blonde heart-of-space Quatre. This Quatre kicks ass and takes names and does it in a suit, okay?

Notes: For seven years Roy Mustang has been with a homunculus who has the face, but not the soul, of the boy he once loved. This is a gorgeous fic with tight prose, good plot, great characterizations and lovely angst that somehow, against all odds, manages to deliver a satisfying ending generally free of woe. I love the characterizations of all three main characters in this fic, but somehow it was especially easy to come to sympathize with Lust... He has a strange innocence about him, if you can call it that, sort of an animalistic manner that makes him both dangerous and endearing.

Title: Pawns

Notes: AU. This fic is page-turning and plotty as hell; impossible to put down, this fic grabs hold and doesn't let go. Lots of action and drama with a lovely side-dish of Roy/Ed.

Title: Contraries Arc

Pairing: Gen (Roy + Ed friendship, but there's always subtext, baby)
Notes: Reasons for recc'ing can be summed up quite easily: SOL 1056!!! Sol has yet to disappoint me in anything. The plot of this fic is something along the lines of Roy feeling purposeless and Ed trying to help and then the both of them getting sucked into some kind of nefarious plot. Whipping and prison cells are involved, I believe, which in my eyes is always a Plus. But seriously...really well written, great action and friendship.
